I believe we all serve somebody or something in life, good or bad, so I made a deliberate choice as to Who I would serve. Professionally, I chose to first serve in the military and then serve other Veterans and their family members through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

After college, I was commissioned an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) and went on as first in my family to earn a law degree and two master's degrees with distinction. After being honorably discharged from active-duty, I worked in the private sector as a law firm associate attorney and then started my own company. However, I continued to hear the call of public service. After two combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Marine, I decided to continue serving in the USMC Reserves and joined VA.

The most impactful part of public service has been in the USMC Reserve. I have found no profession as inspiring as leading Marines and would happily serve them to the end. However, I also truly enjoy serving in VA and most recently led a significant transformation of our 5 Veteran and family member programs. Improving the management of those programs and developing a more customer centric model has been a fulfilling experience that I hope will lead to better health care outcomes for those who have borne the battle and their families.
