Michael A. Morgan
As a child, I remember family and friends asking if he could help them unclog a toilet or fix a leaky faucet. He’d grab his tools and head right over to their house. Whenever they tried to pay him, he wouldn’t accept anything in return. He would do it out of the kindness of his heart. That is where I learned what it was like to be a selfless servant.
My interest in public service was sparked by my wife who served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. Her passion to serve our country inspired me to work for the Navy as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Since my time as a fellow, I have worked in both the private sector and Federal government, where I had the opportunity to provide researchers access to state-of-the-art technology and work with some of the brightest scientists and technologists in the world.
Today I serve as an Emerging Science and Technology Advisor in the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in the Office of Regulatory Science and Innovation. While at the FDA I have helped define how Artificial Intelligence should be used across the organization and managed the FDA’s Intramural grants program which advances research in a variety of areas including women, minorities, and perinatal health.
Throughout my life I have been fortunate to be surrounded by strong examples of servant leadership, empathy, and the honor that comes with serving your country. It has been my experience that it takes a special resolve to innovate in a way that impacts your country. I am grateful that every morning, I look forward to the challenge of helping to protect the public health of our nation and beyond.
