Growing up in Peru gave me a different perspective and allowed me to witness different spectrums of life.

Some were happy, others were sad, hard, and eye-opening, but I soon realized each has been extremely valuable. Those experiences helped me understand and appreciate the dedication, sacrifices, and hard work my parents had to do while I was growing up. Due to those events, I realize how blessed I am to live in a country filled with opportunities. As a dad, husband, and working professional living in the United States, I am thankful I have the chance to give back to my family, community, and country.

After having the opportunity to serve at the Department of Veterans Affairs as a contractor for almost 10 years, I understood that the word service had one meaning when I started and a much deeper meaning when I left. As a doer, I am passionate about what I do and convinced of the tremendous positive impact an engaged, active, motivated public servant can have. I find it incredibly rewarding knowing that I am giving back through my work.

I now serve as a Digital Innovation Project Manager at the Bureau of Industry & Security (BIS) in the U.S. Department of Commerce. I was fortunate to support BIS with their public website by leading the web service team when the Russia-Ukraine conflict started. I am tremendously proud to have led the migration of BIS' entire technological infrastructure to the cloud. Completing this key achievement was exceptionally important for us and has been the highlight of my career. As someone who believes in leading by example, I always hold this John Quincy Adams quote in mind, “I believe if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” I believe it is a privilege to work for the government and positively impact the lives of the people we serve.
