"Contributing to a more just and equitable United States."
I am a Pakistani American and Muslim public servant.
After 9/11, my family, community, and others were targeted for the faith they practiced, or for assumptions about the way they looked. Although I was born in Florida, I felt "othered" as if I was not American enough. As a child of immigrants, that feeling has never really left but it also implanted a desire to contribute to a more just and equitable United States by way of public service. I always knew I wanted to work for the federal government.
I recently joined the Department of Housing and Urban Development in a newly created role as the HUD Customer Experience Lead where I am currently setting up a new team/practice that's focused on a more human-centered approach to government. Our hope is to help ensure that when the American public interacts with HUD, they should get simple, seamless, and secure customer experiences that don't feel too far off from private sector experiences.
