My career in cultural heritage organizations is informed by my background both as a librarian and a historian specializing in twentieth-century American civil liberties, law, and religion.

Currently, I am the Program Advisor to the Director of Digital Strategy at the Library of Congress. We focus on three key areas: strategy, emerging technologies, and communities. I love that I get to work in the Digital Strategy Directorate in the Office of the Chief Information Officer along with colleagues across the organization and throughout the world. Together, we bolster long-standing access to services, reach audiences, open avenues for connection, and encourage new capacity for innovation.

I am inspired by an interest in the rich materials of history and culture, ranging from biographies to local history to works of art and digital media. My desire to join public service was ignited by my interest in facilitating easier access to the historic materials that illuminate both the past and present, and allow us to understand ourselves and our societies. My public service experience spans both public and university libraries. Before coming to the Library of Congress, I worked as a Senior Program Officer at the National Endowment for the Humanities allowing me to work with many large organizations from across the country. The rapidly evolving landscape, challenges, and opportunities provided by our dynamic digital world, inspire me to continue to serve. The highlight of my public service career has been looking at how technology and people can make a difference in libraries and cultural heritage. Digital strategy requires that we simultaneously look into the future and understand the past—while never losing sight of the present. Pulling together threads of history, human experience, and the digital revolution enables us to tell stories that encourage us to keep in mind all that has come before while forging new paths into the future. It’s the stories that capture me, whether those told by the things we save or about how technology has evolved.
