As a son of immigrants and refugees, I believe in the importance of seeing people for their full humanity and in doing the work to provide them that opportunity.

This year I joined the federal government as a Policy Analyst and Federal Customer Experience Lead in the Executive Office of the President. In this role, I do the work of transforming the way government serves the public and better works for the American people.

I am inspired by the public servants, across this country, and across the world who work diligently, day in and day out, to better the lives of people in their community and the lives of those they may never know. My parents grew up in a war-torn refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon, sleeping in small stone homes with tin roofs, and struggling to find enough food each night. My grandfather, a refugee himself, now raising his children in a refugee camp, was the superintendent of the camp’s school system. Before he passed away, he often told me stories of how public service uniquely had the ability to create opportunities for the next generation and to better society around us. My grandfather demonstrated his commitment to public service by serving as an educator with the U.N. for 25 years, and it was his belief that it is each person’s responsibility to contribute in some way to better the lives of those around them that I was raised on. That belief in communal responsibility created the systems that allowed my family to seek refuge in the U.S. 40 years ago. Without public servants, my family would not be here today.

I consider the highlight of my career thus far simply to be the opportunity and ability to serve so many communities, it's a blessing in more ways than one can describe. The experiences I’ve had have been of relentless hope and unwavering support, appreciating that no amount of volunteer hours will ever compare to a tireless commitment to working diligently to honor the lives of the generations who came before me and to bettering the lives of the generations yet to come, who through this work in public service could one day live a life of peace and happiness, one that their ancestors had only dreamt of.
