"I joined public service, because I saw the impact I could have in improving the lives of others."
I started my career as an economist.
I transitioned into data governance as I observed the importance of having high-quality data to modernize and improve government processes and policies. I wanted to join public service because I saw the impact I could have in improving the lives of others. I like to pull apart tough problems and find practical solutions, and I was excited to find I could do this in public service.
During my career I’ve had the chance to be a part of some amazing groups and initiatives focused on building data capacity in the federal government. For example, I advocated for and implemented a Department-wide data modernization initiative at the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). Through this project, we worked to improve availability and accessibility of critical DOL data to all consumers of that data – including developers, journalists, researchers, and other Federal agencies.
Today, I am the Executive Secretariat of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs VA Data Governance Council. The VA Data Governance Council oversees data quality, management, and analytics improvements to support the Department. I am inspired by the mission and people every day. I continue to be grateful that I chose a career in public service where I can focus on building data capacity and improving how the government runs.
