I am a multilingual public relations professional and a naturalized US citizen who immigrated from Mexico to Los Angeles with my family when I was a child.

When I was a graduate school student in Seoul, the Mexican Ambassador to South Korea invited me to join the Mexican Foreign Service as a Civil Attache. I was very proud to represent my native Mexico oversees. A couple years later, the same ambassador invited me to join his team at the Embassy of Mexico in Tokyo as Head of Communications, and that solidified my identity as a proud public servant. I felt strongly that minority women needed to be present and visible in public diplomacy, a realm long represented by men.

I served as a political officer at the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, DC for five years. Then, in 2009, I became a US citizen. After leaving diplomatic service, I now proudly serve as a local government employee in my adopted state of Virginia. In my current role as Supervisor of Public Engagement, I write strategic communications plans to ensure Arlington Public Schools can reach and engage a broad spectrum of parents and community stakeholders in multiple languages using a variety of tools. I strive to empower people and make a positive impact every day for the diverse communities that we serve. It is the most tangible, gratifying and meaningful work that I have done so far. I still feel that my voice and the voices of others are essential in local government.
