Dyan Bullock

Growing up in a rough housing project in Brooklyn, NY, I had goals to secure my future through education, grit, and a steady paycheck.

I watched my single mom work at her government job day in and day out to ensure that my sister and I had clothes on our backs, a roof over our heads, and food on the table. My grandmother also had a successful career in the federal government so it’s no surprise that I chose to follow in their footsteps. After graduating from Virginia State University, I set my sights on landing one of those “good government jobs”.

My first federal job was with the U.S. Customs Service, and this is where I truly gained an understanding and appreciation for the work we do as public servants. For the first few years, I traveled the country providing software training to customs officers and agents so that they could effectively do the work of protecting our borders. I saw up close how our agency was the last line of defense at our nation’s borders and it left an indelible imprint on me. I was with the agency during the 9/11 attacks which put me right in the middle of the transition from the U.S. Customs Service to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency. I worked as a member of a team that consolidated all of the agency’s information technology assets onto one platform.

Since then, I’ve served at three different federal agencies. With each experience, I gain a deeper appreciation for the tireless work that happens within each agency. From supporting our nation’s veterans, to ensuring fair labor and safe workplaces, to protecting our nation’s banking system, my public service career has afforded me the opportunity to meet and help people from all walks of life. Today I serve as the Deputy Director for the Office of Minority Women and Inclusion at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. In this role, I ensure that everyone feels valued, appreciated, and has a level opportunity to be their very best at work. I love the work that I do and am grateful for the opportunity to be an advocate for cultivating better workplaces through inclusion and belonging.
