"Promoting justice and equality through public service."
My decision to pursue a career in public service was influenced by my parents, both educators deeply involved in community activism and social justice.
They instilled in me values of justice, equality, inclusion, and compassion, motivating me to contribute to my community and nation. They firmly believed in the government's potential to collaborate with communities to achieve these ideals.
My current role is Attorney-Advisor in the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) Office of Federal Operations (OFO). The most meaningful parts of my job so far have been cases where I found discrimination against employees or job applicants, or situations where reasonable accommodations for disabilities were not provided. These cases often involve serious injustices and violations of the law suffered by the people who filed complaints. Through the decisions I wrote, I was able to fix these unjust situations and set examples for justice. Additionally, I've enjoyed working with special reports and studies focused on African Americans, women, and LGBTQ+ individuals in the federal sector. These projects have shed light on the ongoing challenges faced by these groups in getting federal jobs.
Furthermore, I've enjoyed working together with federal agencies to improve their equal employment opportunity (EEO) programs. Giving real-time feedback on EEO policies and programs, and discussing how to build model EEO programs with the agencies, are particularly rewarding parts of my work. Promoting justice and equality through my efforts is deeply fulfilling.
