I am a technology policy wonk who is passionate about helping people and serving my community.

I currently serve as the Deputy Secretary of Technology & Innovation for the Government Operations Agency in the State of California. I oversee 13 department technology operations and am responsible for shaping the direction of innovation in the State of California. Under the leadership of Governor Newsom and his vision for equity, I am excited for our upcoming work related to increasing accessibility and reducing the social benefits participation gap. The unfortunate reality is that many of our social benefit programs are not reaching as many people as they could be. Through the introduction of design thinking and a focus on our resident needs, I am working closely with the Office of Data and Innovation (ODI) to help close the participation gap.

I am a lifelong public servant. As a Mexican-American growing up in rural Wisconsin, community was not something I took for granted and became an inspiring force for my career and my life. For me, the highlight of public service always comes down to the relationships built and the continued progress we make towards solving problems. Our communities face tremendous problems, and our democratic institutions offer a way for us to solve problems collectively. The greatest achievements I have been a part of always come back to a team who respects and trusts each other, and works together to build a better future. I can't wait to see what we can do together going forward.
