In her book, Lily Whiteman stated that “the federal government has jobs that you won’t find anywhere else.

Feds work as spies, volcano watchers, park rangers, curators of precious historical documents, and diplomates…. Feds work in every imaginable setting from offices, laboratories, museums, libraries, hospitals, parks, forests…places located throughout the United States to embassies overseas. The possibilities are endless.” This is what inspired me to join public service.

In my current role as the acting Chief Information Officer and the Deputy Chief Information Officer at the International Trade Administration in the Department of Commerce, I lead a multitude of information technology service capabilities, including cybersecurity, data and digital transformation, continuous business processes optimization, capital planning and investments, and workforce strategies. The best part of my current role is every day I am given opportunities to care for our people, processes, and technologies to support the mission. In my 19-year federal career, I have worked in seven federal agencies where I helped the agencies digitize their business processes and optimize their operations so they can deliver faster and smarter customer experience to the public. One of the achievements I am most proud of is successfully transforming the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs to a digital, virtually paperless work environment in only nine months, enabling the public to interact with the government anytime, anywhere, on any device.
