As a first-generation Muslim American born to immigrant parents, I was privileged enough to be raised in the U.S. and Pakistan.

Having lived in both the East and West, I experienced first-hand the best of both worlds but also the challenges faced by the public due to socio-economic and gender disparities, war, famine, natural disasters, and religious and political conflict. Growing in a post-9/11 world, I witnessed mass migration from Afghanistan into Pakistan while simultaneously hearing of the hardships that people were facing in the U.S. As a young girl, I felt an overwhelming need to help bring about positive, lasting change and do my part in making the world a better place. Thus began my journey in the world of public service.

Over the last two decades, I have dedicated my life to serving the public – specifically underrepresented communities. I have given back to my community through my work with international nonprofits, local government, and now the federal government. I am currently serving as a Special Assistant to the National Capital Region Regional Administrator (Region 11) in the General Services Administration. Throughout my career, from helping implement early education programs in rural Pakistan, enforcing federal Section 3 regulations protecting marginalized communities in America, to championing recruitment and outreach efforts for careers in public service, I have remained steadfast on the motto ‘Ut Prosim’—That I May Serve—in hopes of touching and bettering as many lives as possible.
