"Many days are challenging, but they are also rewarding."
I have been a public servant since 2007, working first in the state government before joining the federal government in 2009.
My mother modeled a career of public service having worked as a nurse for Los Angeles County for 40 years. I have been told many times in my career that working for the government is a marathon, not a sprint, and takes a long-haul vision and patience. After 15 years of service, I couldn't agree more. Many days are challenging, but they are also rewarding.
I have worked at the Veterans Administration (VA), General Services Administration (GSA), Air Force (AF) and am currently at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). In each place, I have been privileged to work on impactful information technology (IT) projects. I’ve helped to make it easier for Veterans to navigate the claims system and I’ve improved hiring processes in the Air Force. But above all, the most important work I’ve done has been leading people.
My career journey has been aided by wonderful mentors, leadership coaches, and high performing teams. And over the years, I have been honored to have the opportunity to mentor interns and grow staff. I’ve encouraged folks to take on new and exciting opportunities, listened, and acted as a confidant. There is a lot to love about the government. I’ve been fortunate because I love the people and I love the challenges and opportunities presented while working on IT in the government.
