"My parents showed me that being in service of everyone is an act of true love"
While I was fortunate to have a few amazing teachers who inspired me, I also had a few that made me feel “less than.”
One in particular, during my senior year of high school, laughed when I shared that a college offered me an athletic scholarship. Even as a confident and outgoing “jock” it devastated me. I vowed that day to never make anyone feel that way who was under my care. It was one of those moments that stick with you forever and I decided to use it as fuel.
Today I am the proud principal at Montgomery Village Middle school in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Being named principal last year has been the highlight of my career. The beauty of working in a school is that there is something to celebrate (or cry about) every day. As principal, it is my job to create those “highlight” moments for my staff and students.
