I am the City Manager for Battle Creek, Michigan.

I am the chief administrative official responsible for the daily operations of a full-service city of 53,000 people with over 540 employees. I am a servant leader and steward of taxpayer dollars, accountable to my city commissioners, my community members and my team. Serving my community is a passion and the work of public servants matters.

The highlight of my career so far has been having the opportunity to speak with women and young people about the rewarding careers in public service. I’ve talked with women about being a city manager and having a family, and many believed it was not possible.  I’ve talked to young people about the engineer or IT jobs available in local government. I’ve seen their eyes light up when they learned they could work with their friends, family, police, fire, and others. Not everyone is introduced to public service early in life. Public Service is a rewarding and satisfying career, and I feel responsible for promoting this belief.
