Shortly after graduating college, I met a government accountability professional from Washington, DC who had moved to Tallahassee to implement the Florida IG Act with then-Governor Chiles.

Once I met him, I knew I wanted to work for the Inspector General. After applying for a job in the Office of Inspector General (IG) three times, I was accepted and I was hooked.  Over time, my boss became a valuable mentor to me and inspired me to invest in my own professional development and in gaining the certifications and skills to improve the IG profession. Since then, I have been an IG for one federal agency (the Government Publishing Office) and several state agencies, including the Chief Inspector General for Florida under Governors Crist and Scott. In 2019, I returned to my home state when Governor DeSantis asked me to serve again as Chief Inspector General in Florida. Since returning, I am serving as the National President for AGA (formerly known as the Association of Government Accountants) and I had the privilege of serving as the President of the Association of Inspectors General. This has been an extremely rewarding career of more than 30 years.

Being a part of the IG community over the last few decades has given me so many opportunities to add value to government and to make an impact for the people we serve. I have thoroughly enjoyed building the IG profession and creating innovative approaches to oversight, but the most rewarding is investing in the people who serve – I love building talent and mentoring the next generation of leaders within the IG community.
